2 goals disallowed by VAR, Leipzig win 3-1 over Celtic

RB Leipzig won 3-1 over Celtic FC in the third match of Group F of the Champions League at the Red Bull Arena Stadium, Wednesday (5/10). Two goals were disallowed in that match before Andre Silva became Leipzig’s hero.

The game has only been running for 13 minutes, Leipzig has had to make substitutions. The main goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi injured because of the wrong pedestal when providing feedback. Janis Blaswich came on in his place.

Celtic from the start of the game took the initiative to control the ball from the start. The visitors are also more confident in doing high pressing. But Celtic’s weakness lies in high defensive blocks that are often exposed.

On the other hand, Leipzig chose to play straight forward. Die Bullen successfully passed the pressure from Celtic, although they often struggled. However, Leipzig actually easily passed the last line of the opponent’s defense.

In the 18th minute Christopher Nkunku broke into Joe Hart’s goal with a chip kick after using Mohamed Sisian’s low cross.

However, VAR disallowed the goal after Nkunku was deemed to have been in an offside position before receiving the ball.

Celtic almost went ahead in the 25th minute if Kyogo Furuhashi’s header from Daizen Maeda’s cross was not saved by Janis Blaswich.

The preoccupation of attacking makes Celtic off guard in defense. Captain Callum McGregor made a blunder by releasing a backpass to the back.

But the ball was difficult to reach by his teammates. Instead the ball could be chased by Nkunku who outwit Joe Hart before breaking into the Celtic goal in the 27th minute.

Disadvantaged 0-1 in the first half made the visitors Celtic immediately step on the gas at the beginning of the second half. In the 47th minute Jota scored the equalizer after utilizing Furuhashi’s assist.

Dominik Szoboszlai found the net Joe Hart in the 61st minute with a hard right footed shot from outside the penalty box. It’s just that the goal was disallowed because Szoboszlai’s shot led to his team-mate Andre Silva who was in an offside position.

The 2-1 advantage was finally owned by Leipzig after Andre Silva’s goal in the 64th minute. The goal took advantage of goalkeeper Joe Hart’s blunder.

Joe Hart’s shot from Silva’s offside foul was too weak, so it could be won by Szoboszlai. Szoboszlai then gave the ball to Silva which was then placed in the bottom right corner of the Celtic goal.

Andre Silva again kept Leipzig away from the pursuit of Celtic thanks to his goal in the 77th minute that maximized Sisian’s pass.

Joe Hart made a crucial save by denying Emil Forsberg a chance in the 89th minute. Leipzig finally won 3-1 over Celtic.

This victory lifted Leipzig from the bottom of the standings after losing in the previous two matches. Leipzig swap places with Celtic who are now at the bottom with just scored one point.
