Overshadowed by the dark memory of the Olympics, Kento Momota is determined to show his best performance at the BWF World Championships aka the 2022 World Championship. Kento Momota is one of the most reckoned men’s singles.
He reached the peak of his performance in 2019. At that time, the Japanese badminton player set a record with 12 finals and won 11 of them. Momota’s winning percentage is also high, which is around 90 percent, the result of 67 wins in 73 matches. Unfortunately, a traffic accident in Malaysia in January 2020, changed Momota’s luck. He slumped and lost his touch.
The title seemed reluctant to approach, including in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Kento Momota failed miserably and was immediately eliminated in the group stage of the Tokyo 2020 badminton sport. The only title he has won since the accident to this moment is the Indonesia Masters 2021 in Bali.
As the world’s top men’s singles, the achievement was really uncomfortable. However, Momota still has plenty of opportunities to rise and prove himself. Soon, Kento Momota will take part in the 2022 World Championship which will be held in Tokyo, Japan, on August 22-28.
Momota certainly can’t forget the memory of failing at the Olympics. However, this time Momota is determined to give his best at the 2022 World Championship. “I want to take this opportunity to make amends after the failure of the Olympics,” said Momota. “I hope this time I can take advantage of the support of Japanese fans in this World Championship,” added the world number two men’s singles.
Kento Momota now feels more confident and ready to face the obstacles ahead. “I no longer have a problem with anxiety now. I hope to record a series of good results and compete with my rivals,” said Momota.
Kento Momota is seeded second at the 2022 World Championships. He occupies the bottom pool in the tournament chart. In the lower pool, there are a row of top badminton players, including Anders Antonsen (Denmark/seed 3), Lee Zii Jia (Malaysia/5), and Loh Kean Yew (Singapore/8). In the first round (last 64) of the 2022 World Championship, Kento Momota will face the unseeded player from Mexico Lino Munez.
