3 Players Who Performed Well in Arsenal vs PSG Match

The first leg of the Champions League semi-final between Arsenal and PSG at the Emirates Stadium presented a fierce duel that ended with a score of 1-0 for the away team’s victory.

The only goal was scored by Ousmane Dembele early in the match, taking advantage of Arsenal’s back line’s negligence. This result gave PSG a slight advantage ahead of the second leg in Paris.

In addition to the quick goal, the match was also marked by brilliant performances from a number of players. From the PSG camp, Dembele and Gianluigi Donnarumma were the keys to Les Parisiens’ success in bringing home the victory.

Meanwhile, on Arsenal’s side, Declan Rice performed consistently in midfield even though his team failed to score a goal.

Here is a review of the performance of the three players who performed most prominently in the match.

Ousmane Dembele: The Difference in PSG’s Attack Line

Ousmane Dembele scored a quick goal in the fourth minute which immediately silenced the home supporters. The goal was born from good cooperation with Kvaratskhelia on the left side of PSG’s attack.

Dembele unleashed a powerful right-footed shot towards the far post and failed to be anticipated by David Raya. His speed and finishing were the main weapons in this match.

In addition to the goal, Dembele also showed active movement throughout the first half. He was a constant threat to Jakub Kiwior and William Saliba in the heart of Arsenal’s defense.

Unfortunately, his brilliant performance had to stop early due to a muscle injury. He was withdrawn in the 69th minute and replaced by Bradley Barcola. This injury is a concern for PSG, who still need Dembele’s creativity in the second leg next week.

Gianluigi Donnarumma: PSG’s Victory Savior

Gianluigi Donnarumma was an important figure behind PSG’s clean sheet at the Emirates Stadium. The Italian national team goalkeeper made five saves throughout the match, including two brilliant saves from Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard in the second half. His quick reflexes and smart positioning made the difference under the crossbar.

Donnarumma also showed incredible composure under pressure from Arsenal’s onslaught. He excelled in aerial duels and was able to read the direction of the ball from the cross. His communication with the center-back duo Marquinhos and Pacho helped keep PSG’s defensive organization solid.

His performance tonight was a reminder of the world-class quality he possesses, despite being criticized in several previous matches. Donnarumma proved himself to be a solid PSG wall, and his performance will be crucial again in the second leg.

Declan Rice: The Tireless Pacemaker

Declan Rice was Arsenal’s most prominent player despite his team losing. He controlled the midfield, facing PSG midfielders such as Vitinha and Joao Neves. Rice recorded 4 successful tackles and 6 defensive actions, showing aggression as well as discipline in defending.

Not only that, Rice was also active in building attacks from midfield. He recorded 91% pass accuracy from a total of 55 attempts, with several accurate long balls towards the wings. His tactical decisions kept the balance between attack and defense as Arsenal tried to catch up.

Although he failed to bring Arsenal to the scoreline, his contribution was still clear. He anchored the Gunners’ play and provided a sense of security for the back line. Rice will likely be relied on again by Arteta to lead the midfield in the second leg in Paris.
