John Murtough explained the reason why Manchester United signed Christian Eriksen in the transfer market this summer. Manchester United confirmed on Friday (15/7/2022) that they had secured the signature of Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen.
The Red Devils, nicknamed Manchester United, do not need to spend a dime to transfer Eriksen because Eriksen’s contract with Brentford expires on June 30, 2022. That is, the 30-year-old midfielder came to Man United on a free transfer. In the team’s official release, Man United tied Eriksen to a three-year contract, meaning the midfielder will be at Old Trafford until 2025.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports reports that Christian Eriksen has passed a rigorous medical test before being announced to join Man United. However, Christian Eriksen will not be able to join Man United’s ongoing pre-season tour of Australia.
Regardless of the situation, Christian Eriksen, with his presence, is believed to be able to strengthen options in the Man United midfield in the 2022-2023 season competition. He will again work with Erik ten Hag as the coach who helped him return to football after suffering a heart problem at Euro 2020.
After Christian Eriksen began to recover, Erik ten Hag was said to have invited him to train with Ajax Amsterdam. Now, after that moment, Christian Eriksen and Erik ten Hag will work together again under the Man United banner.
Reporting from the Manchester Evening News, John Murtough as club director of Man United explained there were three reasons the Red Devils brought Eriksen to Old Trafford. First, Eriksen is considered one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe. Then, the midfielder has a lot of experience, and lastly skills in leading.
“Christian has been one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe throughout his career. It is not surprising that he has so many options this summer. We are very happy when he sees this club as the best choice,” said John Murtough. “In addition to his outstanding technique, Christian will add valuable experience and leadership skills to the squad. We look forward to seeing the benefits of this quality on the pitch next season and beyond,” said John Murtough.
Prior to joining Man United, Eriksen had played for another Premier League club, Brentford, in the 2021-2022 season. He joined the club called The Bees in the second half. Noted, Eriksen scored one goal and four assists in 11 appearances with the club nicknamed The Bees. Meanwhile, for the whole, Eriksen has so far packed 52 goals and 71 assists in 237 appearances in the Premier League.
