Shin Tae Yong said that during his time as a coach he had never had the experience of losing to Uzbekistan.
This was stated by coach Shin in a press conference ahead of Indonesia vs Uzbekistan in the semifinals of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup.
The Indonesia vs Uzbekistan match will be held at bin Khalifa Stadium, Doha, on Monday (29/4/2024) evening West Indonesian Time.
Ahead of the match, STY said they had faced Uzbekistan in the U-20 Asian Cup.
STY has indeed led the Indonesian U-20 National Team against hosts Uzbekistan U-20 in the final Group A match of the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup.
The match ended in a 0-0 draw. Uzbekistan qualified for quater final as the top of Group A and finally won the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup. Meanwhile, Indonesia stopped at third place in the group.
“The last time I played against Uzbekistan was in the U-20 Asian Cup, even though we failed to host the U-20 World Cup. But at that time we couldn’t bring our six best players,” said coach Shin.
“But Uzbekistan still dominated the game [at that time] and we didn’t play well compared to Uzbekistan,” added STY.
However, during his time as coach, STY admitted that he had never lost to Uzbekistan.
“As a coach, I have no experience losing to Uzbekistan. Even though Uzbekistan is a good team and has good players too,” said STY.
Coach Shin himself has a big dream of bringing the U-23 Indonesian National Team to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The U-23 Indonesian National Team at Asian Cup will be the qualifying for the Paris Olympics 2024. The top three teams from this tournament will automatically advance to the Olympics, while the fourth place will go through playoff against African teams.
The U-23 national team can lock up a place at the 2024 Paris Olympics if they win over Uzbekistan in the semifinals.
