Real Madrid, strengthened by Kylian Mbappe, won the UEFA Super Cup after defeating Atalanta 2-0 at the National Stadium in Warsaw, Poland, Thursday (15/8/2024) local time.
Madrid immediately took control of the game since the kick off of the first half. Carlo Ancelotti’s team forced Atalanta players to focus on defending.
Despite not having much possession of the ball, Atalanta almost scored a goal against Madrid, guarded by Thibaut Courtois. Marten de Roon’s shot hit the Madrid crossbar in the 25th minute.
After that, Madrid regained control of the game. However, Mbappe and his friends were still not free to create important opportunities against Atalanta.
Madrid had a chance through Vinicius Junior, but his shot was blocked by Atalanta’s defense.
Madrid, who faced fierce resistance from Atalanta, was finally able to score the opening goal in the 60th minute. Vinicius’ pass to the goal was easily tapped in by Federico Valverde, making it 1-0, Madrid leading.
Los Merengues almost increased their lead just two minutes later. Vinicius was one-on-one with Juan Musso but his shot was brilliantly thwarted by the Atalanta goalkeeper.
Madrid managed to increase their lead to 2-0 in the 69th minute. The second goal was scored by their new star, Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe did not waste the opportunity in the opponent’s penalty box after receiving a low pass from Jude Bellingham.
Madrid became more confident in launching attacks after leading 2-0. On the other hand, Atalanta’s efforts to score a goal were blocked by the solid defense of Madrid’s defenders.
As a result, Atalanta could not score a single goal until the second half ended. The match was won by Madrid with a score of 2-0 and confirmed themselves as the champions of the UEFA Super Cup.
Mbappe is also predicted to shine even brighter with Madrid in both domestic and international matches.
