Ronald Koeman’s position in Barcelona is not secure. Here are a number of candidates to replace Ronald Koeman if sacked by Barcelona.
Reports from Spain say that President Joan Laporta will discuss Koeman’s future at the Blaugrana on Tuesday (25/5).
In two seasons in Barcelona, Koeman could only give one trophy to the Catalan club: the Copa del rey 2020/2021 title.
Only, the achievement is considered unmatched for Koeman to coach Barcelona longer. In addition, Barcelona’s performance actually declined towards the end of the season which made the Blaugrana lose the chance to win the LaLiga.
Only, quoted from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will have to pay compensation of 8 million euros if they sack Koeman at the end of this season.
With the future still gray, Koeman is said to be replaced by a number of new coaches. Some coaches who were once tied to Barcelona as well as new coaches are claimed to be able to coach at the Camp Nou next season.
5 Candidates to Replace Ronald Koeman in Barcelona:
1. Xavi Hernandez
Xavi is considered worthy of coaching Barcelona because he became one of the legends at the club who won many titles while a player. In every Barcelona coach transfer exchange, Xavi’s name is always nominated.
However, club president Joan Laporta is claimed to be not too confident with Xavi’s quality which is considered to still lack experience. Today, the coach Balugrana needs is one who is experienced and accomplished with a number of big clubs.
2. Erik ten Hag
Another name considered to be Barcelona coach is Erik ten Hag. Barcelona and Ajax Amsterdam are considered to have the same philosophy of the game, attacking and relying on ball control.
Ten Hag is said to form an increasingly great Ajax. However, Barcelona’s chances of getting Ten Hag are slim, as the Dutchman has just extended his contract with Ajax at the end of April.
3. Pep Guardiola
Barcelona still harbor a desire to bring Guardiola home to Camp Nou. Guardiola is Laporta’s dream. Laporta will be very happy if Guardiola wants to return to Barcelona.
However, Guardiola is currently focused on Manchester City in the Champions League. The former Munich coach has also repeatedly stated that he will not return to Barcelona.
However, Laporta can still try to convince Guardiola of the difficult situation Barcelona is currently in so that the 50-year-old coach can actually return to Camp Nou.
4. Mikel Arteta
Arteta is claimed to be Joan Laporta’s desired coach. During his campaign as Barcelona’s presidential candidate, Laporta kept figuring out how to bring Arteta to the Camp Nou.
The former Arsenal player is considered a Barcelona -style coach. In addition to being a player ‘born’ from La Masia, Arteta also worked with former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
5. Jurgen Klopp
Klopp’s performance as a coach should not be in doubt. In the German League, Klopp once teased Munich’s dominance when he was with Borussia Dortmund.
Klopp’s patience in Liverpool by building a foundation in the Reds squad made his first Premier League title and also the Champions League.
Despite not having the Barcelona style, Klopp is believed to still be able to give glory to the Blaugrana.
