Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang followed in the footsteps of his coach, Mikel Arteta, after receiving a red card in the Crystal Palace vs Arsenal match. Crystal Palace vs Arsenal match at the Selhust Park Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw on Saturday (11/01/2019).
Aubameyang got a red card in the 66th minute after collide violently with Max Meyer. Initially, Aubameyang only received a yellow card for the violation. However, the referee changed his decision after seeing a replay of VAR.
This red card ruined the contribution of Aubameyang who scored in the 13th minute. The Crystal Palace then created score by Jordan Ayew in the 53rd minute.
Quoted from the BBC Sport website, Aubameyang became the third Arsenal player to score a goal and get a red card in a Premier League match. Interestingly, the last Arsenal player who did that was Mikel Arteta.
This story is even more interesting because Arteta experienced the same thing as Aubameyang when facing Crystal Palace at Selhust Park Stadium. It happened in 2013 when Arteta was still playing for Arsenal.
Responding to Aubameyang’s red card, Arteta did not comment much and accepted the referee’s decision. “I actually didn’t really see the violation. However, I think Aubameyang’s violation was quite harsh,” said Mikel Arteta. “I know that Aubameyang did not intend to violate violently, but I think he did make a mistake,” Mikel Arteta added.
This result also stopped Arsenal’s record of two consecutive wins in the Premier League. Arsenal did not move from rank 10 standings with a collection of 28 points or one point behind Crystal Palace on it.
