5 Potential Young Players in the Champions League This Season

A number of young stars are projected to shine in the 2019/2020 Champions League which will begin on Tuesday (9/17) or Wednesday (9/18).

The Champions League can be an arena for young players to look impressive and increase selling points.

Last season, names such as Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong became young players who shined in the Champions League. Both brought Ajax Amsterdam to the semifinals after getting rid of big clubs such as Real Madrid and Juventus.

In this season some of the names of young players deserve attention because it has the potential to bring the club to go further in the Champions League.

Here are five young players who have the potential to become stars in the 2019/2020 Champions League quoted from Metro:

1. Dani Olmo (Dinamo Zagreb)

Dani Olmo is one of the mainstay players from Dinamo Zagreb. Thanks to Olmo’s role Dinamo also won four league titles and three domestic trophies. Because of his glorious performance the 21-year-old winger won the title of best player and best young player in the Croatian League.

In this season Olmo scored three goals and provided five assists in qualifying which brought Dinamo to the Champions League final round. Besides playing as a winger, Olmo is also good at playing as an attacking midfielder.

2. Tammy Abraham (Chelsea)

Tammy Abraham has scored seven goals in five matches in the Premier League. The incision aligns his name with a senior striker like Sergio Aguero on the top scorers list.

Abraham has the potential to continue the positive trend when Chelsea are in a group with Lille, Ajax and Valencia in the Champions League this season. A good final solution is one of Abraham’s strengths.

3. Ansu Fati (Barcelona)

Lionel Messi’s absence in the early matches of the Spanish League was put to good use by Ansu Fati. Coach Ernesto Valverde has played Fati in three matches. The opportunity was proven by the 16-year-old winger with a score of two goals.

His goal against Osasuna put Fati as Barcelona’s youngest goalscorer on his debut. In the Champions League, Fati again has the potential to set a record if played and scored against Borussia Dortmund.

4. Joao Felix (Atletico Madrid)

Joao Felix’s name has shone with Benfica since in the Europa League last season. However, his move to Atletico Madrid this season could make the 19-year-old striker grow.

This season Felix has played in four matches with Atletico in the Spanish League by scoring one goal and one assist. His impressive performance brought Atletico to temporarily top the standings.

5. Erling Braut Haland (RB Salzburg)

Not many people know the RB Salzburg attacker, Erling Braut Haland. However, Haland has scored 11 goals in seven matches in the Austrian League.

Together with Liverpool, Napoli, and Genk in Group E, Salzburg became one of the unseeded teams to qualify for the knockout stages. But Haland could be a threat to any Salzburg opponent.
