5 Real Madrid Players with Number 16 Before Endrick, Many Failed!

Endrick has been introduced as a new Real Madrid player. The Brazilian player will wear the number 16 jersey at his new club.

Real Madrid brought in Endrick from Palmeiras for around 47.5 million euros. Endrick is tied to a six-year contract, aka until 2030.

Endrick was officially introduced to the public on Saturday (27/7/2024). Around 40 thousand Madridistas filled the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium to welcome the player.

During his introduction, Endrick was seen wearing the number 16 jersey. He also wore that number when he made his professional debut for Palmeiras in 2022.

Before Endrick, there were many Real Madrid players who wore the number 16 jersey at Real Madrid. Who are they?

Here are the last five players to wear the number 16 jersey at Real Madrid.

  1. Alvaro Odriozola

Alvaro Odriozola is the last player to wear the number 16 jersey at Real Madrid. Unfortunately, Odriozola did not get much playing time while wearing the Los Blancos uniform.

Odriozola was brought in by Real Madrid from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2018. The Spanish right-back has only played 49 matches in all competitions with Los Blancos.

Because he rarely played, Odriozola was loaned to Bayern Munich and Fiorentina. He left Santiago Bernabeu permanently in 2023 by returning to Sociedad.

  1. Luka Jovic

Luka Jovic is also another talented striker who failed to shine while wearing the Real Madrid uniform. Even though

Luka Jovic appeared quite sharp when he was still playing for Eintracht Frankfurt. Real Madrid then brought him to Santiago Bernabeu in 2019.

Unfortunately, Jovic’s sharpness seemed to disappear after coming to Santiago Bernabeu. He was only able to present three goals from 51 matches in all competitions with Los Blancos.

After being loaned back to Eintracht Frankfurt, Jovic was finally released to Fiorentina in the summer of 2022. The Serbian player currently plays for AC Milan.

  1. Borja Mayoral

Borja Mayoral is a player who was educated at the Real Madrid academy. He had the opportunity to wear number 16 in the 2022/2021 season.

While wearing the Real Madrid uniform, Mayoral was more often a reserve player. He lost out to top attackers such as Alvaro Morata and Karim Benzema.

Mayoral could only score seven goals in 33 matches with Real Madrid. The Spanish striker was finally released permanently to Getafe in 2022.

  1. James Rodriguez

James Rodriguez wore the number 10 jersey at the start of his career at Real Madrid. After undergoing a loan period at Bayern Munich, James had to wear another number.

James was recorded as wearing the number 16 jersey in the 2019/2020 season. That was his last season with Los Blancos before moving to Everton.

In total, James played 125 matches in all competitions with Real Madrid. He scored 37 goals and 42 assists from his appearances.

  1. Mateo Kovacic

Mateo Kovacic joined Real Madrid from Inter Milan in the summer of 2015. However, Kovacic failed to appear regularly while at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Kovacic had to be satisfied with being a substitute while there was the trio of Luka Modric, Casemiro, and Toni Kroos. He played 109 matches and scored three goals for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid loaned Kovacic to Chelsea in the 2018/2019 season. Kovacic was made permanent by The Blues the following season and the Croatian midfielder now plays for Manchester City.
