5 World Football Stars Appear on Film

A number of world footballers who are still actively playing or who have retired have starred in some feature films. Recently there have been two French players Olivier Giroud and Presnel Kimpembe who became the top performers in the French version of Spiderman, ‘Spiderman: New Generation’.

Expertise in dribbling the ball does not only make footballers pursue careers on field, but also appear on the screen as a film player. Interestingly, appearing as a movie star was performed by the soccer players while active as a player. But there is also like Eric Cantona who became a movie star after hanging shoes.

Here are 5 world soccer stars who have appeared in films quoted from Sportskeeda page:

1. Neymar

Brazilian star Neymar does not only have the talent in football. Neymar turned out to be involved in a small role in the Trail of Lies (Amor a Vida) film in 2013, and was also cast in Shakira’s 2014 World Cup song in Brazil title La La La.

In 2017, Neymar also had the opportunity to play a role in a major film project. The former Barcelona player appeared in the film XXX: Return of Xander Cage, where he played Paris Saint-Germain as a soccer player recruited into a secret organization.

2. Ashley Cole

LA Galaxy left-back Ashley Cole also had the role to appear on the screen. Named the best left-back in England and the best in the world in his era, Ashley Cole played a role in the documentary film legendary Arsene Wenger.

The film, entitled Arsene’s Eleven, tells the golden age of Wenger’s leadership with Arsenal. Not only that, Cole also played Dead Man Running in 2009.

3. Zinedine Zidane

Zinedine Zidane’s involvement in the film was inseparable from the incident to Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup Final. As a result of the red card, Zidane was red carded and failed to bring the French national team world champion for the second time.

Three months after the red card, Zidane appeared in the film Family Guy under the title ‘Saving Private Brian’. In the film, Zidane is told to bring a cake and gore and old grandmother who parodied his header to Materazzi.

4. David Beckham

David Beckham initially appeared as Cameo in film Goal Released in 2005. But after retiring as a player in 2013, Beckham is increasingly active in the world of glass screens. Noted there are three films starring the former Manchester United player.

In addition to making a film titled ‘Bent it like Beckham’, this four-child father also attended the film The Class of ’92 and played in the film A man from U.N.C.L.E in 2015 and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword in 2017.

5. Eric Cantona

Eric Cantona could be the former player who starred in the film the most. The first film starring Cantona was Happiness Is in the Field in 2015. But after retiring in 2017, the film played by the Frenchman grew.

Cantona tried a different world after hanging shoes, something not many former professional footballers do. If most players after hanging shoes became coaches, Cantona actually becomes a movie star. Until now, a total of 26 films have starred Cantona, including some famous ones such as: Elizabeth, The Children of the Marshland, You and the Night, The Salvation, and Look for Eric.
