After Manchester City announced their withdrawal, five other founding clubs from the Premier League also declared their cancelation from participating in the European Super League.
Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United almost simultaneously decided to withdraw from the event announced last weekend.
The founding clubs of the European Super League have reportedly been shaking since Tuesday (20/4) evening European time or (21/4).
These famous teams from England consider the factors of supporters’ protests, government resistance and other stakeholders.
“Liverpool confirms involvement in the proposed plans to form the European Super League has been terminated. In recent days, the club has received representatives from various key stakeholders, both internally and externally, and we would like to thank them for their valuable contributions.” write a statement on Liverpool’s official website.
While Man Utd affirms our commitment to football, “We remain committed to working with others throughout the football community to come up with sustainable solutions to the long-term challenges facing the game.”
Initially, the six clubs’ move to establish the European Super League received negative response from many parties.
FIFA and UEFA immediately acted decisively and prepared penalties for the clubs that found the league which were deemed to have separated from the football family.
Even the fate of Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd, who were competing in the continental arena, the Champions League and the Europa League, had received threats from UEFA.
Supporters and players from each club also stressed their resistance to the club’s choice of holding a midweek league which only a few clubs will participate in.
Apart from the six founding clubs from England, the European Super League also has founding clubs from Spain and Italy who are also likely to declare their resignations in the near future.
Previously, Barcelona had also stated that they would not automatically participate in the European Super League and would comply with the wishes of the members determined through a poll.
