7 Conditions for Liverpool to the Champions League Next Season

Liverpool need to pass a number of conditions in order to qualify for the Champions League next season after the Premier League has two remaining matches left.

Liverpool’s chances of winning the Champions League are still open after a dramatic 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns Stadium, Sunday (16/5).

Coming from behind through Hal Robson-Kanu’s goal in the 15th minute, the Reds scored a reply through Mohamed Salah in the 33rd minute.

Goalkeeper Alisson Becker became the hero of Liverpool’s victory over West Bromwich with a header in the 90 + 5 minute after taking advantage of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner.

With that victory, Liverpool continued to stick closely to Chelsea. Jurgen Klopp’s side are now in fifth place (63 points) one point behind the Blues.

The victory over West Bromwich also still opens Liverpool’s chances of the Champions League next season, albeit with a number of notes.

7 requirements for Liverpool to the Champions League next season:

1. Sweep the Victory Clean

All Premier League clubs have two games left. Liverpool itself will play Burnley and Crystal Palace in the remaining two matches.

In order to qualify for the Champions League, Liverpool will need to clean up the matches against Burnley and Palace. Wins over Burnley and Palace do not automatically move Liverpool into the top four, but it depends on the results of other matches.

2. Leicester Failed to Win

Liverpool could have won the Champions League after winning the remaining two games, as long as Leicester City, who are now in third place, failed to win the last two matches when they met Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

With a minimum of two draws, the Foxes’ maximum points are 68. While Liverpool with an additional two wins have a total of 69 points.

Liverpool also remain in the Champions League with the last two wins, although Leicester have won once and lost once. Through this result Leicester and Liverpool will be both 69 points. Liverpool will qualify if they have a better goal difference and the number of goals scored than Leicester.

3. Chelsea One Draw

Another way for Liverpool to go to the Champions League after two wins is to hope that Chelsea have once won a draw in the last two games against Leicester and Aston Villa.

By winning 4 points from the last two matches, the Blues’ point collection is 68. That way, Liverpool will be one point ahead of Thomas Tuchel’s team.

4. Liverpool Wins Once

The chances of Merseyside Red to the Champions League remain open despite winning one of the remaining two matches.

By winning once, Liverpool will depend on the results of Chelsea’s matches and also their closest competitors, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, who are expected to win only once from the last two games.

5. Chelsea Lose

If Liverpool’s maximum points are 66 (one win, one defeat), Liverpool need to expect Chelsea to lose to Leicester and Villa.

If Chelsea can still win two points from the last two matches, Liverpool must win once and at least one draw in the remaining matches. That way Liverpool’s total points are 67 while Chelsea is 66.

6. Liverpool to Draw

Champions League tickets can still be brought home by Liverpool even though they have achieved minimal results, two draws against Burnley and Palace.

For the results of the two draws, Liverpool need to see Chelsea swallow two defeats from their last two matches. That way Liverpool’s points are 65, while Chelsea are still 64.

7. Tottenham and West Ham failed to win

Apart from depending on Chelsea’s results, Liverpool also need to hope for the bad results of Tottenham and West Ham if the Reds only win two draws.

By winning a total of 65 points, Tottenham and West Ham will never win in the remaining two games. At least Tottenham and West Ham have at least a maximum of only one win and one draw.
