7 Records That Messi Breaked in 2019

7 Records That Messi Achieved in 2019

A number of records were broken by Lionel Messi with Barcelona in 2019. Nevertheless Messi only helped the Blaugrana win the La Liga trophy this season. Barcelona failed to reach a number of targets this season. Starting from the Champions League to the Copa del Rey.

At the beginning of the season Messi had launched to bring home the Champions League trophy to Camp Nou. But in fact, Barcelona was defeated by Liverpool in the semifinals after losing 3-4 on aggregate.

Failure in the Champions League has disturbed Barcelona’s psychology. The issue of Ernesto Valverde’s dismissal at the end of the season emerged. That factor also caused Barcelona to fail to win the double title after losing 1-2 to Valencia in the Copa del Rey final.

Despite not being able to help Barcelona win many trophies, Messi successfully won the European Golden Shoe award after scoring 36 goals in La Liga and recording a number of new records. Total players nicknamed La Pulga were packing 51 goals this season in all competitions.

Here are 7 records created by Messi this season after the turn of the year quoted from Talskport:

1. Scored 40 More Goals

Messi scored his 39th and 40th goals in a 2-0 win over Espanyol in March. Note that made Messi collect more than 40 goals in 10 consecutive seasons since 2009/2010 with a collection of 47 goals. In the 2008/2009 season Messi only scored 38 goals.

2. Exceed Iniesta Records

The match against Espanyol was the 675th for Messi with Barcelona. La Pulga successfully beat Andres Iniesta’s match record. Now Messi is chasing Xavi’s record with 767 matches.

3. Scoring the 600th Goal

A free kick against Liverpool in the first leg of the Champions League semifinal was 600th for Messi with the Blaugrana. But that goal and record could not save Barca from a 0-4 defeat in the second leg.

4. 50 penalty goals in La Liga

The 31-year-old collected 50 penalty goals in La Liga when Barcelona were held to draw Valencia 2-2, February. The penalty goal in the 39th minute reduced the position to 1-2 before Messi equalized in the 64th minute.

5. Fastest 20 Goals

Penalty against Valencia makes Messi the fastest player to collect 20 goals this season in Europe’s top five leagues. The record also made La Pulga score 20 goals in 11 consecutive seasons.

6. 400 goals in La Liga

Lionel Messi became the first player to score 400 goals in La Liga after breaking into Eibar in a 3-0 victory in January. A total of 400 goals were inscribed by Messi in 435 matches.

7. Most La Liga wins

Messi passed the record of the victory of Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas, in La Liga (334), after breaking into Atletico Madrid’s goal which made Barcelona win 2-0 in April. Now Messi has collected 339 wins in La Liga and can still continue to grow.
