Kazakhs Gennady Golovkin and Mexican Canelo Alvarez offred a whole show Sunday Morning in T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, and the three judges to announce a draw verdict to the surprise of several.
Two of the judges scored a very tight duel, one card to the advantage pf Golovkin 115-113 and the other give a clear advantage to Alvarez 118-110, the third equal 114-114.
So, Golovkin retains his IBF, IBO, WBA and WBC belts in the circumstances. At 35-year-old, he remains unbeaten in 38 fight, while Alvarez, recorded his second draw for 49 wins against 1 defeated.
Round 1
Golovkin controlled the center of the ring. The two boxers exchanged well, Golovkin with several jabs and Alvarez with good blows to the body.
Round 2
Alvarez is very active and often touches the target. Golovkin is neutralised.
Round 3
Alvarez still takes the advantage, he gives the most powerful blows. Gennady moves more towards the end of the round.
Round 4
Golovkin continued on his way to fourth place, now the Mexican on the ropes for a while.
Round 5
Golovkin seems to have more confidence and offers nice combinations without being really hard at the beginning of the round. With a minute to do, Alvarez finally cash a solid right but nods his head like to let it believe that it has not been at all shaken.
Round 6
Golovkin continues to chain the jabs, puts pressure and makes his opponent back.
Round 7
Golovkin is still the main aggressor. He strikes hard from the right and Alvarez counter-attacks very effectively.
Round 8
Alvarez touches the Kazakh on the body a few times and succeeds a well placed uppercut but Golovkin is not put in danger and replies. The latter pushed his opponent in the corner and kept control.
Round 9
Golovkin multiplies the strikes and Alvarez suffers. However, he is back in the midfield but the champion also responds.
Round 10
Alvarez exploded briefly in the 10th round and did some damage while Golovkin missed the target some time. The latter regains control despite placing the Mexican on the ropes.
Round 11
It’s very tight as the end approaches but Golovkin seems to have a slim advantage.
Round 12
Alvarez starts in strength and connects the combinations. He keeps pace until the end. The two boxers give everything they have but also cling sometimes.

There will be undoubtedly be a second fight between the two world champions but they always have the chance to face in the future.
