Chinese tourists accounted for 18% of International Tourists to Singapore

Singapore has witnessed an overwhelming response from the mainland Chinese tourists, with an increase of about 5% year-on-year. They have been reported to be about 1.55 million and accounted for 18% of the total international visitors to Singapore in first half of 2017.

According to official statistics of the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), the tourism market hosted more than 8.54 million tourists in the first half of this year. The GGRAsia reported, that the mainland Chinese tourists were ranked first during six month statistics, according to their numbers of individuals relative to other holidaymakers’ country origin.

The statistics from official report, chalked up the list of countries according to their natives visits to Singapore. The second position at the chart shows 1.47 million visitors from Indonesia till the end of June, with an increase of 4%. The third place at the chart was secured by Indian Tourists with a number of 660,000 with an increase of 15% in total number relative to the last year statistics.

The list of international tourists to Singapore, is then succeeded by citizens of Malaysia, which are reportedly approximated to be 562,000. During the first half of 2017, Austrailian tourists visiting the country were reported to be 523,100. The statistics showed that 380,700 people visited from Philippine along with 361,500 Japenese. The South-Korea and United Kingdom succeeded the list with 315,400 and 265,600 number of the visitors respectively.

Singapore is home to world class resorts.  Resorts World Casino Sentosa, controlled by Genting Singapore Plc, along with Marina Bay Sands subsidiary Las Vegas Sands Corporation offers a range of facilities for their visitors. The brokerage firm Sanford C Bernstein Limited reported 7.8% increase in the revenues of first half of 2017 of the two casinos. The participation of the natives in the market was also recorded in the statistical report. The citizens or permanents residents are allowed to participate in casino games, provided they abide by entry levy law.

The Singapore Tourism Board reported an increase of 5% year-on-year revenue. The GGRAsia reported that the revenue increment in first six months was generated through ‘sightseeing, entertainment and gaming’ receipts.

The receipts data showed the top revenue generator countries China, Indonesia and India contributed almost $2.95 billion on non-gaming activities while $2.689 billion were contributed through gaming receipts. The big three contributors represent 38 percent of the non-gaming tourism receipts in Singapore.
