David Lemieux and Billy Joe Saunders continue hostilities ahead of their fights

David Lemieux and Billy Joe Saunders continued the hostilities during the first event of promotional week that will lead to their shock of Sunday morning at the Place Bell in Laval, Canada.

If Lemieux was mostly indifferent in responding to the words of his rival with the usual formulas, Saunders was much more incisive in his attacks by suggesting that he had won the psychological warfare that the boxers have been fighting for several months already.

“David is a very week person mentally. I managed to get into it. He lost to Gennady Golovkin and his victory over Curtis Stevens proved that he is not part of the world’s elite.” Saunders told Monday during in a press conference.

“He had faced only bums before measuring himself against Golovkin and when that happened, he failed to win. If he doesn’t pass me the knockout, he has no chance.” Sauders added.

“I traveled a lot when I was in the amateur ranks. And as for the judges, I don’t worry about it at all. As I said before, if he doesn’t pass me the knockout, he has no chance, but I expect a very, very good fight.” Saunders said.

Saunders, the WBO middleweight champion is indeed at the heart of several controversies, and not just because of the sweet words he sent to Lemieux.

He was summoned by the British Boxing Board of Control on his return to the UK because of an unsightly tweet, now declared, that suggested that some women should be killed.

BBBofC has also already fined him £ 2000 in the past for another inappropriate social media publication. As if that was not enough, he used the frog hastag on Twitter in response to a Lemieux attack earlier this month.

Lemieux is a powerful boxer and brings a 38-3 record into the fight, including intimidating 33 knockouts. He held the IBG middleweight title in 2015.

“I am a completely different boxer than Golovkin. I will be neither more nor less than his worst nightmare for life.” Lemieux said.

“In the ring, I’m going to charge him for everything he said. You know how he’s been saying all kinds of things for months.” he added.

The 28-year-old boxer will play a third world title fight since the beginning of his career, the first since he lost to Kazakh boxer Gennady Golovkin.
