Kell Brook makes world title promise after successfully weighing in

Kell Brook vowed to become a two-weight world champion after successfully weighing in for his super-welterweight debut against Sergey Rabchenko.

The Sheffield man has stepped up a division to target another world title fight, but must firstly overcome Rabchenko this Saturday night, live on Sky Sports.

Brook, who weighed in at 10st 13lbs 7oz, hopes victory over the Belarusian will pave the way for another big fight in the summer.

Asked if he could reclaim a world belt, the former IBF welterweight champion told Sky Sports News: “I see myself doing that.

“I’ll be back in the gym Monday. I don’t want to look past this kid, but I want to be active. I want to be fighting again in the summer.

“A real quick turnover and then at the end of the year. That’s what I want to do. I haven’t got time to be messing about.”

The 31-year-old lost his title in a stoppage loss to Errol Spence Jr last May at Bramall Lane, but wants a winning return in his hometown as Rabchenko came in slightly lighter at 10st 13lbs 4oz.

Brook said: “You don’t get paid for overtime in this game, and I’m looking to end the show before 12. But if it goes 12, it goes 12.

“The fans are in for a great night. Every single round is going to be entertaining. It’s going to be explosive, punches from different angles, head and body, using the ring. Championship fighting you’ve got right here Saturday.”

On the undercard, Gavin McDonnell was inside the super-bantamweight mark at 8st 9lbs 6oz for his WBC international title fight with Gamal Yafai, who also came in under the limit at 8st 9lbs 8oz.

Heavyweight David Allen tipped the scales at 16st 12lbs 4oz, while Lenroy Thomas was 16st 8lbs for their Commonwealth title rematch.
