The Blues look unlikely to qualify for the Champions League next season, and that has the Belgium international feeling down at Stamford Bridge Eden Hazard says he will not be happy as long as Chelsea are not winning in the Premier League. The Blues have endured a difficult 2018 with only three Premier League wins in 11 matches, with Antonio Conte’s men slipping out of the top four and crashing out of the Champions League. Hazard has fared well at times this season despite those results, netting 15 times and adding six assists in all competitions this year.
Chelsea star, Eden Hazard has stated that he ‘cannot be happy’ at the club unless the Blues are winning and challenging for trophies. Antonio Conte’s men, who currently sit on fifth position in the Premier League table, have struggled to produce consistent performances this season. The Blues are currently five points behind fourth place, Tottenham in the English topflight log. The Premier League champions will be hoping to overtake Mauricio Pochettino’s men in the race for Champions League qualification for next season.
Hazard has insisted that no matter how well he is performing for Chelsea, he cannot be satisfied if the team is not winning matches and challenging for trophies. Speaking to Metro, Hazard said: “Yes I have scored some goals – that’s why I am on the pitch – but the thing I want most is for my team to win. “When we are not winning, I cannot be happy. We are fifth in the Premier League and we are out of the Champions League. We didn’t win the League Cup. So it is a bad season. “I can score 50 goals – but that isn’t important. The most important thing in football is to win something for my team.”
However, the Belgium international says he cares little for his own form while the team are struggling. Asked by Sky Sports if he is happy with his performances, the Belgium international replied: “For the last two months, no, because the results are not good. “I don’t play football just for me – I play for the team. If I play good, but we are not winning, I am not happy. That’s it. “It’s better for me to play very bad and, at the end of the game, we win 1-0. I don’t like stats. I play for a long time, so I am on the pitch to enjoy. “If I can score, I score. If I can assist, I assist. But I just want to be happy on the pitch, and when you are winning you are happy, and when you are not winning you are not happy.” Chelsea are now 10 points shy of London rivals Tottenham, who occupy the final Champions League qualification place, but Hazard is not ready to give up the chase yet.
