Paris Saint Germain have confirmed Thomas Tuchel as their new coach on a two-year deal since leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of the 2016/17 season. He will replace Unai Emery at the Parc des Princes.
Speaking to media, Tuchel admitted to become PSG manager is a special honour in the game and claimed he needs to create a team for an artist like Neymar to express himself within.
“Neymar is an artist, I must create the right team structure within which he can express himself fully.” Tuchel told to Spanish media.
“He’s one of the best players in the world, a key element for us to be able to win matches. I’ve already spoken to him, it went very well and we also have other fabulous players.” Tuchel added.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is confident that Neymar will stay long term beyond his current contract. The Brazilian has a fantastic first campaign this season and the club never doubted his qualities after guiding his club to win France Ligue 1 title.
When asked about Champions League chances at PSG, Tuchel said it is too early to talk about it because the pressure that surrounds clubs here is different than Bundesliga.
PSG have been knocked out at the quarter-finals stage and a year ago they exited in the round of 16 despite beating Barcelona 4-0 in the first leg. They also knocked out by Real Madrid in the round of 16 this year.
“It’s too early to talk about concrete ambitions. We must first create the environment where the players are happy to work. Ask me about the Champions League in the spring.” Tuchel said.

The 44-year-old manager also added that he motivated by former Barcelona’s Pep Guardiola. He admitted that he will learn from the Spaniard did in La Liga and Bundesliga. In addition he looks forward to working with all these great players at PSG, all of whom are among the best on the planet.
“Pep Guardiola is a big influence for me. His Barcelona team were one of the nicest to watch in the world. I would like to generate an environment here like the one which he had with Barcelona.” Tuchel added.
