Manchester United star Daley Blind could be heading to Barcelona this summer, reports in Spain claim. The Dutch defender is set to leave Old Trafford this summer. Blind, 28, started just four Premier League games under Jose Mourinho this season. The centre-back has been heavily linked with a move to Series A, with Roma and Juventus linked with Blind. However, according to Spanish news outlet Don Balon, the United star could be heading to Barcelona.
They also claim that Barca transfer chief Josep Maria Bartomeu is keen to land defensive reinforcements this summer, with a Nou Camp shake-up ready. Don Balon adds that Barca superstar Lionel Messi has approved the Spanish giants’ move for Blind. Barca feel Blind would provide competition for places at the Nou Camp, with Jordi Alba their only real option at left-back. Lucas Digne has struggled to impress at Barca following his move to La Liga from PSG in 2016.
Don Balon also say that Blind is open to leaving Old Trafford this summer after becoming frustrated with his lack of game time under Mourinho this season. United boss Mourinho has been vocal about his summer transfer plans, with the Special One claiming earlier this year that he’ll look to tweak his squad. “We are going to invest the basic to improve our squad,” he said. “There is always in the group of players, in the squad, there is always a player or a couple of players who are not playing a lot, and they will obviously try to leave, so we are going again to touch [tweak] our squad and to believe that more than [a case of] spend, spend, spend, is probably the evolution of our players. “We have some young players that need to get, with both hands, opportunities with their evolution, so let’s see.”
