Max Verstappen makes second-place finish in French Grand Prix

Max Verstappen finished second place behind of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and ahead of Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen third in French Grand Prix on Sunday night.

The Red Bull driver took advantage of the confusion created in the first round by the clash between Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and Valtteri Bottas to take off without too much effort.

“I’m very happy to finish on the podium. I had a lot of fun on the Paul Ricard. I had a good race and it is always good to take big points, although I did not have to fight hard to get this result.” said Verstappen after the race.

“In fact, my race was at the start. As usual, there are always some drivers who are more excited than others. As we have seen today, it can do damage.

“After getting rid of this mess, I tried to follow Lewis but I suspected that I had almost no chance against his Mercedes. It was a pretty lonely race, but at least I had Lewis in front of me, I could watch something.” Verstappen added.

When asked about Vettel’s clash and the penalty he received that allowed him to finish fifth, Verstappen said it was not acceptable in the championship.

“I think next time you see Sebastian, maybe you should tell him to change his style, because honestly it’s not acceptable.” Verstappen said.

“That’s what they said to me in the beginning of the season so I think they should do same to him. And of course, Sebastian shouldn’t do anything, and just drive again, and learn from this, and go on. That’s my advice to everyone in this room.” the Dutchman added.

Verstappen is currently sitting in sixth place in the world championship standings with 68 points, 28 points behind his teammate Daniel Ricciardo who sitting in third place.

Meanwhile, Hamilton, it is his first win at Paul Ricard Circuit, having competed at Magny-Cours twice before in 2007 and 2008, the last time the GP was held.

The Briton has retaken the lead of the world championship standings. He moves 14 points clear ahead of closest rival Vettel so far.

“Great work guys I am so happy for England. It’s beautiful Sunday, I feel very grateful for solid weekend.” Hamilton said after the race.
