Dovizioso: “We just have to stay calm to be stronger than before”

Andrea Dovizioso is keen to get back on the track and work on improvements at the Dutch Grand Prix this weekend. The Italian failed to finish his race at the Catalan Grand Prix two weeks ago.

Dovizioso admitted his Catalan GP crash was down to pushing too much to stay in victory contention. The crash marked his third retirement in four races.

But, at the TT Circuit Assen, the 32-year-old rider claimed he must work in the best and must improve to maintain his 49-point clear behind the champion Marc Marquez.

Usually, I need at least a few days to digest a zero point like that of Barcelona and it was again this time. I carefully analysed the last race to try to understand what happened.” Dovizioso said.

“In any case, there are always positive aspects. With a teammate like Lorenzo, it’s even more important to work well for the race and to get there with very clear ideas. Recently we have always been fast and competitive. In Assen, we just have to stay calm to be stronger than before.” Dovizioso added.

Ducati’s Lorenzo has secured his second straight win, the Spaniard drawing level with teammate Dovizioso in the MotoGP standings.

The Dutch Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, July 1, and Dovizioso thinks he will try the soft rear tyre at Assen tomorrow, and will see what happens in the free practice, before making a decision on which tyre to select for the Sunday’s race.

“Today we worked on hard rear tyres and the speed was really good. But it’s not clear. We have to work also on the soft. Jorge worked on the soft today.” Dovizioso added.

“Tomorrow morning we will work with the soft to try to understand how it will be because it’s very hot for Assen. We have to see the work of the rear tyre because it’s very difficult in this track to be fast and save the tyre, because you are always using a lot of angle.

“I didn’t check, but I think all the Ducati riders have a limit there. I think the high-speed change of direction, followed by the fast left corner is not the best for us.” he added.
