Former Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon officially joined French giants Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for a season ahead on Friday (6/7).
Buffon’s contract with Les Parisiens is a free transfer effective from July 6, 2018 to June 30, 2019. PSG official website confirmed, 40-year goalkeeper has option of contract renewal in the next season. Buffon claims to be proud of his move to the French capital. One of the reasons Buffon went from Juventus and Italy is the ambitious project of Paris Saint-Germain. Buffon revealed that PSG want to be a club that triumphed at the international level. This means that the club nicknamed Les Parisiens was not only want to be a champion in the French League alone, but the European scene. Of course it is no secret that PSG is a team that always improve themselves to win the Champions League every season.
It is plainly visible from PSG stretch in every transfer market. If the target of PSG is to win the French League alone, they certainly do not need to spend big money to recruit Neymar da Silva and Kylian Mbappe last summer. Therefore, Buffon was also inspired to realized the dream of PSG. Moreover, Buffon has also never won the Champions League.
“The enormous joy with me eventually joined Paris Saint-Germain, For the first time in my career, I left my country and only this ambitious project could push me to make this decision,” Buffon said.
“I want to thank the club and the president for their trust. Following the extraordinary development of the club in recent years, I know what PSG and fans dreams are in their hearts,” Buffon added.
He was also admitted ready to give all his strength to the defending champion Ligue 1.
“I will bring all my energy, all my experience, and all my thirst to win, to help my new club reach all the major goals that have been set,” Buffon added.
“With our teammates and supporters we will share fantastic emotions at the Parc des Princes and at all the stadiums where we will represent Paris, an exceptional city that deserves to one day see his club at the top of international football,” concluded Buffon.
PSG is the third club in Buffon’s professional career. Born from the Parma academy, Buffon costumed the Gialloblu for seven seasons before moving to Juventus in 2001.
Buffon’s career grew with the Old Lady. When Juventus were degraded due to calciopoli cases, Buffon remained loyal. Buffon is one of the best goalkeepers in the world with a great ton of successes.
In 2006 Buffon led the Italian national team to win the World Cup in Germany. One of the trophies that Buffon has never had so far is only the Champions League. Although three times played in the Champions League final, but Buffon always failed to become champions.
