Appearing Dominant, Ducati Still Not Sure Can be a World Champion

Ducati boss, Gigi Dall’Igna is not sure Ducati still has a chance to fight in the race for the 2018 MotoGP world champion despite appearing neat in the last two series.

After the second half of 2018 MotoGP began, Andrea Dovizioso and Jorge Lorenzo appeared tough in the Czezh Republic and Austria MotoGP. Dovizioso won the Czech MotoGP while Lorenzo became the best in Austria.

The second podium rider in the two series made Dovizioso and Lorenzo climb up in the standings. Lorenzo is currently in third place with a collection of 130 points, behind 71 points from Marc Marquez who became the top of the standings. Meanwhile Dovizioso was in fourth position with a collection of 129 points.

Despite showing a rising graph, Dall’Igna still does not want to indulge in excessive optimism regarding the championship opportunities this season.

Marquez’s consistent appearance is one of the reasons Dall doesn’t want much hope. In addition to Argentina and Italy, Marquez always climbs the podium in nine other series.

“I don’t feel that we have a chance to fight in the race for the world champions. We still have to try to win the series as much as possible and then see our position at the end of the season,” said Dall’Igna as quoted by Tuttomotoriweb.

After this 2018 MotoGP will continue to Silverstone circuit in the UK on August 26th. Dovizioso managed to be the fastest at the circuit last year while Marquez failed to finish in the race.

The large difference in points between Dovizioso-Lorenzo and Marquez was due to the many mistakes made by the Ducati duo.

Dovizioso and Lorenzo had collided at the Spanish MotoGP which made both of them failed to finish despite being in good condition. Dovizioso also failed to finish in France and Catalonia, where he should have a great chance of finishing the podium.

Meanwhile for Lorenzo, he could really pull out the potential of the Ducati Desmosedici motorbike in the Italian MotoGP. Lorenzo successfully won in three of the six series he has lived since the Italian MotoGP.
