Newcastle United failed to be saved from their defeat when they hosted Chelsea at St James Park in the English Premier League on Sunday (8/26).
This was due to DeAndre Yedlin’s own goal in the 87th minute. Yedlin, who was originally a hero thanks to his assist for Joselu, was forced to become a burden as he accidentally deflected Alonso’s shot towards his own net.
The goal began with a free kick released by Willian headed by Olivier Giroud in the penalty box towards Alonso who was behind him. Then, Alonso fired a cross that hit Yedlin’s feet. Previously, after having fallen behind first by Eden Hazard’s penalty in the 76th minute, Joselu who entered as a substitute managed to equalize in the 83rd minute. Joselu who entered the field in the 62nd minute replacing Samuel Rondon managed to head in a right-wing cross which was released by DeAndre Yedlin. Joselu then ran in the penalty box to welcome the pass with a header into a narrow space between the goal post and Chelsea goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Shortly before Yedlin released a cross, Olivier Giroud who escorted him dropped while holding his face. The France attacker immediately protested to the referee because he felt he had been elbowed before Yedlin took off a fruitful goal for Joselu. However, the referee did not violate.
Previously, the goals obtained by the hosts began with Fabian Schar’s foul on Marcos Alonso in the penalty box. Hazard’s penalty shootout could not be driven off by Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka despite having jumped in the right direction.
With three points obtained from St. James Park, Chelsea are ranked second in the standings after three games under Liverpool who have never conceded.
