Manchester United slipped to their second defeat after the match against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Monday (28/8). Tottenham silenced Man United with a final score 3-0.
The match was tight in the early stages. Manchester United appear aggressive and push deep into the Tottenham defense and could make the guest difficult.
At the beginning of the match, Manchester United recorded a chance to make chances from Antonio Valencia’s long ball received by Fred. Manchester also had time to push deep into Tottenham defense which was reciprocated by lowering tempo of the game.
Some fatal mistakes were created by both Tottenham and Man United. Danny Rose could make a fatal mistake that almost led to a goal for MU.
But the condition turned upside down in the second half. Tottenham got two quick goals from Harry Kane in the 50th minute and Lucas Moura in the 52nd minute. MU became depressed.
Man United recorded throwing a good chance in the 61st minute of Lukaku which was forwarded by Jesse Lingard. Unfortunately, Lingard failed to kick the ball on time and tackle by Alderweireld.
Jose Mourinho then entered Alexis Sanchez to boost MU’s attack. But the plan was well blocked by Tottenham. Moura also added value to Tottenham in the 84th minute.
Mourinho expressed his team’s failure to show their readiness to fight since the training session.
“We worked very well this week, We made preparations very well. We played very well in training sessions. The players showed a fantastic attitude, ” Mourinho said.
However, in the real match Manchester United just fizzled out. Mourinho also regretted his players could not score goals in the first 45 minutes.
In fact, the Red Devils have 10 opportunities, 2 of which lead to the Tottenham Hotspur goal.
“In the first half, Manchester United should have gone 2-0 or 2-1 or 3-0,” Mourinho added.
“Then something made the game little changed in the second half and Tottenham were 2-0 up. Everyone could feel that a goal could change the course of the game. Then, Tottenham’s third goal put the match to an end.”
Manchester United lost by at least 3 goals at Old Trafford for the first time in all competitions since Manchester City were silenced 0-3 in March 2014 in the Premier League.
Tottenham are now in the second place in the standings with nine points from three matches that have been run. While in the top position perched Liverpool and Chelsea followed in third place, and Watford in fourth position and Manchester City in fifth position. Manchester United itself is ranked 13th.
