Player and Former Manchester United Player Defends Mourinho

The player and former Manchester United player considers Jose Mourinho to be a qualified manager and can present a title for a club that has been five years without the English League trophy.

Mourinho and Man United start the 2018/2019 Premier League with inconclusive performance. Of the four matches, Paul Pogba and his friends won twice and collapsed twice. Defeats suffered in a row from Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur.

2-3 and 0-3 defeats in the second and third week made Mourinho under pressure. But the Red Devils players and former players support the existence of the Portuguese figure in the team manager’s seat.

“Of course he know what he is doing. You might also know. This is a good thing for us. He is one of the best managers in the world, you know what titles he has achieved in his career, so that describes everything,” said Man United midfielder Nemanja Matic quoted by SkySports.

Matic, who was brought in by Mourinho from Chelsea, also explained the manager was confident before the match against Burnley in the fourth week of the 2018/2019 Premier League which ended with a score of 2-0.

The Serbian midfielder revealed Marouane Fellaini’s whereabouts was a crucial decision for Mourinho to stem the ball above which Burnley often played.

Besides Matic, former Man United number one goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel also gave support to Mourinho. According to goalkeeper in Sir Alex Ferguson’s era, Mourinho only needed to be given time to produce a title.

The Red Devils lost two of their first three league games for the first time in the Premier League era this season, sparking speculation that Mourinho could be axed as manager. The former Real Madrid and Chelsea boss has a strained relationship with chief executive Ed Woodward and publically criticised the club’s transfer dealings over the summer. But Schmeichel, a five-time Premier League title winner, insists Mourinho is capable of turning things around if he is given ‘time and patience’ from the Manchester United board.

“He has experience in big clubs. Real Madrid, Inter Milan. He won the Champions League with Porto. Three Premier League titles with Chelsea. He did a lot of great things in football.”

“But Manchester United is at a different level. The supervision, tradition and history that we have. Every day, we respect our history. We have a very proud tradition,” Schmeichel explained the reason for supporting the manager nicknamed The Special One.

Following the international break, Manchester United will resume their Premier League campaign with a trip to Watford on September 15.
