Georges St-Pierre says he is looking forward to working with the UFC on another fight in the near future

Strong suggestions have led fans to believe there could be some real movement on a clash between Georges St-Pierre and Conor McGregor or Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The former UFC welterweight champion recently brushed aside recent reports that he wants to face the winner of the McGregor-Nurmagomedov duel scheduled for October 6 in Las Vegas.

“I did not say that I intended to do it. I was quoted in the wrong way, in order to write more popular articles. This is the kind of society we live in.” St-Pierre said.

Many people speculated that the Quebec fighter is preparing for his next fight after GSP published a photo on September 2 that appears to be thinner.

St-Pierre made the comments during a public release as part of his partner company Hydrorevolution, which specializes in aquatic training.

St-Pierre (26-2-0) has not recovered in the Octagon since his victory over Michael Bisping in November 2017, when he returned from a hiatus of four years, after he vacated his UFC title, because of health problems.

In a statement, St-Pierre said he is looking forward to working with the UFC on another fight once he is completely healthy in the near future,

“I don’t want to sign a contract for a fight immediately. I don’t want to commit myself immediately to a fight. But I am looking forward to working with the UFC.” St-Pierre said.

“I want to come back in a good fight. I want to come back for a fight that I can win, which can be beneficial for my career. Not only in monetary terms, but also for the legacy I leave to the sport because I have a lot more to lose than to win.” he added.

St-Pierre explained that it is due to an intermittent fasting he has been subjected to in recent months with regard to his recent weight cut.

“For my confrontation with Bisping, I wanted to add mass, but I did it the wrong way.  I ate a phenomenal amount of food. I almost vomited at times.” St-Pierre said.

“With stress and all that that implies, it has been bad for my digestive system. Even though I was obsessed with the idea of gaining weight, I should never have done that.” St-Pierre added.

UFC President Dana White, meanwhile, has already ruled that a fight between St-Pierre and the winner of the McGregor and Nurmagomedov bout was probably not to come. White had even stated in June that, to his knowledge, the 37-year-old athlete was “retired”.
