Roberto Duran hopes a rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez

The legendary boxer, Roberto Duran, said he would prefer that Floyd Mayweather could grant a rematch to current WBC champion, WBA middleweight, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

However, former middleweight is not in favor of a rematch between Mayweather and Filipino Manny Pacquiao in the near future.

Mayweather, has won a 12-round decision win over Pacquiao in 2015 – in what was the most lucrative fight in boxing history.

Now, Mayweather (50-0-0, 27 KOs) discusses the idea of making a comeback, considering he is offering a rematch to one of his biggest rivals, the Filipino Pacquiao, who recently captured the WBA “Regular” welterweight title, after passing the knockout to the Argentine Lucas Matthysse in a one-sided fight.

Mayweather, meanwhile, inflicted Canelo’s career loss in a one-way, only twelve-round bout in 2013; a duel that went to a wrestling weight of 152 lbs.

Duran is convinced that the moment is very propitious – if Mayweather wants to fight again – for there to be holding this mega-rematch.

Duran believes that, at this point, Mayweather would get a much more lucrative fight by facing Canelo (50-1-2, 34 KOs). Facing the Mexican boxer would also be a much bigger risk for the American boxer than a duel with Pacquiao.

“I would prefer to see Canelo get a rematch with Mayweather, and I bet Canelo would win the fight – since you have to keep in mind that Mayweather really does not like being beaten.” Duran said.

“It’s a fight I’d like to see him for his comeback, because Mayweather says he wants to come back to take part in a bout with Pacquiao and this is not a real fight.

“He should fight Canelo for two reasons. Who are the ones who fill hotels in Las Vegas? Mexicans do it, not gringos. Mexicans are the ones who fill hotels because they don’t just want to see a fight, they are there to see a show, and Mexicans want to have fun, while Americans are quieter. I studied it closely,” Duran added.

Duran is a Panamanian former professional boxer who competed from 1968 to 2001. He is a four-weight world champion, having held titles at lightweight, welterweight, light middleweight, and middleweight.
