Lawrence Stroll bought Force India in the summer of 2018, in August. It had just been placed under judicial administration at the end of July.
His son Lance Stroll officially joined his ranks in November as one of two riders for next season, alongside veteran Sergio Perez.
Lance, who finished 18th in the driver standings after scoring six of Williams’ seven points, made his Force India test debut last year in the post-race Abu Dhabi session.
In recent campaigns, Force India has been one of the top performers in midfield squads despite limited resources compared to its closest rivals. Although there has been a big gap with the top-3 (consisting of Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bulls) in recent years, Stroll wants to see Force India reduce that gap before the next regulatory changes in 2021.
“In the short term we want to keep fighting at our current level. In the medium term, we want to try to fight for third place instead of fourth place. And in the long run, when the rules change, we hope to become one of the best paddock teams.” Stroll said.
The Canadian billonaire on the other hand, he will take a different approach than the former owner Vijay Mallya.
“I will be very involved. The plan, number 1, is not to change what is currently working. There is already good leadership and a good management team within the group.” Stroll said.
“They have been doing this for a long time and they are doing great work. You just have to support them. Number 2, we need financial stability.” Stroll added.

Force India could have a different name in 2019. The team had performed under the name of Racing Point Force India last year.
The provisional list of 2019 indicates the name Racing Point, completely abandoning the mention of Force India. The permanent name will be confirmed by the start of the next season and must be approved by the F1 Commission.
Force India will unveil its future car at the Toronto Auto Show on February 13th, five days before the start of winter testing in Barcelona.
