The issue of selling value in the release clause at Real Madrid claimed to be the main cause Cristiano Ronaldo left the club to Juventus. Ronaldo’s transfer did seem sensational at the time. The reason is, he just escort Real Madrid into the Champions League third time in a row, but he and coach Zinedine Zidane chose to leave.
Reporting from Express, the confession was revealed from one of the journalists and observers of Spanish football, Guillem Balague, at the GB talk show Transfer Show.
Previously, Ronaldo was called to choose to leave Los Blancos because of cases of tax evasion or salary increases at El Real. However, it was called Guillem not the real reason for CR7.
Real Madrid President Florentino Perez is considered to have offended Ronaldo because he wanted to change his sale value in a contract clause if he wanted to extend cooperation.
“Cristiano [Ronaldo] had time to say [to Perez]: ‘If you want me to survive, give me a new contract.'”
“Then Perez said OK. ‘But if you don’t mind, lowering your selling value in the release clause becomes more realistic,'” Balague pointed out Perez’s words to Ronaldo.
Ronaldo’s own release clause is said to reach € 1 billion, as quoted by the Daily Mail. Perez also considered the value unrealistic at the age of 33 years.
The desire of the club through Perez which will reduce the selling value also made Ronaldo offended and felt no longer needed.
He was then called to ask his agent to look for another club that was willing to take him away.
“What do you think about Ronaldo’s reaction at the time? He said: ‘They [Madrid] don’t need me anymore. Ask Jorge Mendes [agent] to find me another team,” Balague said, mimicking Ronaldo’s words.
Later, only Juventus were willing to accommodate him. Even then the club can only afford it with a value of € 100 million far below the selling value in the release clause. However, Ronaldo did not care because he was called already hurt by Madrid.
The star continues to solidify his intention to go from Madrid to accept Juventus’ offer even though the transfer value is only equivalent to € 100 million.
Ronaldo himself previously revealed that he indeed felt unwanted again at Los Blancos.
“I feel in the club, especially the president [Perez], they no longer consider me the same as the first time I came [in Madrid].”
“In my first or fifth year there [Madrid] I felt like ‘Cristiano Ronaldo’, but not after that,” Ronaldo said.
