Guardiola does not care about the Premier League Point Record

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said he was not too concerned about the opportunity to break the Premier League points record even though it could be one of the conditions to win the Premier League this season.

Last season, Manchester City scored 100 points to become Premier League champions. Note that number is a new record in the competition. ‘The Citizens’ are 19 points ahead of Manchester United in second place.

While for this season, Manchester City collected 56 points from 23 matches. If they are able to win all the remaining 15 matches, Manchester City will end the season with a value of 101 points.

For Guardiola, breaking the record is not important. But Guardiola did not deny that Manchester City needed a lot of victories to be able to shift Liverpool from the top of the standings. At present the ‘Reds’ collect 60 points.

“I insist that a record-breaking is not a fact that we aim at because it doesn’t really matter, but we do have to win a lot of games to become champions of the English League.”

“Liverpool will not lose a lot of points. I do not know what we need to win the championship title but I’m sure we have to win a lot of wins and the first is the game against Newcastle,” Guardiola was quoted as saying by the Telegraph.

Manchester City have benefited because they played earlier than Liverpool in the next three matches in the Premier League. That could make Sergio Aguero and his friends put pressure on Liverpool. But this will mean nothing if Manchester City loses. Moreover, the three opponents that Manchester City will face are not easy, namely Newcastle, Arsenal and Everton.

“They already know that because we’ve talked about it. Previously, with 85, 87, 89 points, a team could be a champion.”

“Now a team needs more than 90 points [to become champions]. In that situation, playing faster or later than the rival team, what is needed is to win the match. If we fail, then the chances will be almost over. Every match is almost final. as if we were playing in a tournament, “Guardiola said.

Guardiola also did not want to think too much about the pressure that might be experienced by Liverpool.

“All teams who want to be champions must feel the pressure, and that’s what must be overcome.”

“I don’t know what they are thinking. I am not in the Liverpool dressing room. What we need is to win the game we play and they will feel that Manchester City are always behind them.”
