Highlight in 2019 Spain Masters Tournament

The 2019 Spain Masters, known officially as the Barcelona Spain Masters 2019,which took place at the Pavelló de la Vall d’Hebron in BarcelonaSpain from 19 to 24 February 2019 with a total prize purse of $150,000 has completed. The 2019 Spain Masters is the fourth tournament of the 2019 BWF World Tour.
Several countries have high expectation for their representatives to excel in this world tournament. The Danish men’s singles badminton player, Viktor Axelsen, successfully won his first title this year in the tournament. Viktor Axelsen climbed to the podium after winning the civil war against Anders Antonsen on Sunday (02/24/2019). In the match, Axelsen, the top seed in the tournament won with a score of 21-14, 21-11. Axelsen was now equalizing the meeting record with Antonsen to 2-2. Previously, Axelsen had defeated the Antonsen in the first round of the 2017 All England Open.

The success of winning the 2019 Barcelona Spain Masters was a good start for Viktor Axelsen in this year’s BWF competition calendar. In the previous two tournaments, the Malaysia Masters and Indonesia Masters, the former world number one player could only reach the semifinals. In Malaysia, Axelsen was beaten by Chen Long (China) with a score of 13-21, 18-21, while in Indonesia, he was defeated by Kento Momota (Japan) with a score of 15-21, 4-21. Aside from Viktor Axelsen, the pair of South Koreans, Seo Seung-jae / Chae Yujung also won the Barcelona Spain Master 2019 for mixed double category. The duet that  was recognised as the third seed defeated Taiwan representative Wang Chi-Lin / Cheng Chi Ya with a score of 21-18, 21-15. Moreover, South Korea also have triumphed in women’s double category through Kim So-yeong / Kong Hee-yong. The pair won over Japanese’s couple with score 23-21, 15-21, 21-17.

However, South Korea missed the chance to win the third championship title in this tournament through Kim Won-ho / Seo Seung-jae (men’s doubles). They lost the fight over the title from Lee Yang/ Wang Chi-lin from Chinese Taipei with score 8-21, 21-23.  Meanwhile, Denmark certainly won the women’s singles title from the Barcelona Spain Masters 2019. The championship title which contested by Kjersfeldt Hojmark Line and Mia Blichfeldt was won by the later with score 21-14 in two rounds. Mia who is currently rank 18th been in her best performance with world rank of 15th. Money prize for the single winner is $11,250 while double category winner will go back with $11,850. It will be interesting to see who at the end will come out as the champion.
