Everton Hold Draw Against Liverpool in the Premier League

Everton and Liverpool played a goalless draw in the 2018/2019 Premier League match which took place at Goodison Park Stadium on Sunday (3/3). Everton and Liverpool appeared aggressive from the first minute. Fast attacks and interceptions in the midfield are presented in the 200th Merseyside derby match.

There are not many clean opportunities created. In the 15th minute Mohamed Salah fired a left-footed shot from inside the penalty box which could still be caught well by Jordan Pickford. As the match progressed, the speed of the two teams decreased. Liverpool began to look superior in possession. One of the dangerous opportunities was produced by Salah in the 28th minute.

In a counter-attack scheme, the Egyptian player was able to catch a breakthrough bait and dribble into the penalty box. Pickford appeared as Everton’s savior by brush off the ball. Wild ball tried to be used by Jordan Henderson but the ball was successfully blocked by Everton players.

Liverpool’s pressing made Everton difficult to develop the game. But the response of Everton players when losing the ball also gave significant obstacles for Liverpool who are in need of goals and victory after position at the top of the standings. Score goalless draw lasted until the referee blew the whistle the first half ended.

Entering the second half there seemed no change. Liverpool are still struggling to find the opening goal, while Everton respond to the game by waiting and stealing a chance.

In the 52nd minute, Everton got the best chance in this match through Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s header which was caught by Alisson Becker.

Five minutes later an attempt to chase the ball in the penalty box could still be blocked by Michael Keane. Juergen Klopp also put Roberto Firmino in place of Divock Origi.

An important clearance was made by Lucas Digne when Fabinho tried to control the ball and fired from inside the penalty area in the 69th minute. Towards the last 20 minutes ,Everton tried to play offensively. One chance came from Bernard who was late for a split second to welcome Richarlison’s pass in front of Liverpool’s goal.

The open game was exhibited both teams at the end of the game so that the ball was often in the Liverpool and Everton penalty box.

Until referee Martin Atkinson finished the match, the scoreless draw remained unchanged. Liverpool are now collecting 70 points in second place, one point behind Manchester City. While Everton with 37 points was ranked 10th.
