Juventus will host Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the last 16 of the 2018/19 Champions League on Wednesday (13/3). Juventus carried the mission to reverse the aggregate deficit 0-2.
Wojciech Szczesny believes that the road to qualifying for the quarter-finals is still open. With players like Cristiano Ronaldo, the Juventus goalkeeper believes they can make it happen.
Atletico is one of the strongest defense teams in Europe. It’s not easy to overthrow them. But that is also not something that is impossible to do.
“He is a player who can be a differentiator at moments like this,” Szczesny said.
The Hardship
“I think last week’s Champions League results also show that this is not over,” Szczesny was quoted as saying by Football Italia.
“Ajax lost at home, but could get rid of Real Madrid, as did Manchester United with Paris Saint-Germain, so why can’t we believe that we can do it?”
“Atleti are a very neat defense team. I did not say they were defensive, but they have good game imagination and like to counterattack or exploit opponents’ mistakes. We have to be alert, but also maximize the chances of the goals we have created.”
Szczesny was then asked about who his team-mate he expected would be very decisive against Atletico later.
“If you have to bet, I’ll bet on Cristiano Ronaldo.”
“He is a player who can be a differentiator in moments like this. Plus all the experience and goals he has scored in the Champions League, we will need it later Tuesday,” he said.
