Marc Marquez leads Argentina GP pole position

Marc Marquez was the big favorite of the MotoGP qualification of the Argentine Grand Prix. The Spaniard will start in the lead on Sunday with Maverick Vinales and Andrea Dovizioso alongside him.

It was Marquez who led the MotoGP class out in Q2 as the Spaniard and teammate Jorge Lorenzo tangoed around Termas in tandem on their opening flying laps, with the number 93 setting an initial benchmark of 1:38.767 to go top.

Marquez emerged from the box again as he went for the two-stop Q2 strategy, but his second run was ruined at the first corner after a slight mistake under braking. He headed straight back to the pits and with five minutes remaining, the 12 riders were back out on circuit with fresh rubber at their disposal for a shot at pole.

Lorenzo was second but not for long, with LCR Honda rider Cal Crutchlow and Pramac Racing rider Jack Miller exchanging second fastest laps, with the British rider eventually heading in after the first stint as Marquez’ closest challenger – 0.188 the gap.

After missing in the Qatar trials, Monster Energy Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi corrected the shot in Argentina: he will open the second line alongside Jack Miller and Franco Morbidelli. Yamaha makes a nice shot grouped since his 4 drivers are in the top-7: Fabio Quartararo will indeed start 7th. The tricolor shows once again that he quickly adapted to the queen category.

LCR Honda rider Takaaki Nakagami and Ducati rider Danilo Petrucci completed the top 10, while Jorge Lorenzo qualified 11th, but had his best time deleted due to track limits at Turn 14, and will only start 12th behind KTM’s Pol Espargaro.

Johann Zarco will start his second race for KTM from 18th, while new Aprilia recruit Andrea Iannone ended up 12th and slowest of all in Q1, consigning him to the very back of the grid.
