Georges St-Pierre continues his active lifestyle despite UFC retirement

Former middleweight UFC champion Georges St-Pierre returned to his career during the interview. Two reasons pushed him to make his way in mixed martial arts; his admiration for Jean-Claude Van Damme on one side and his willingness to learn to defend himself to fight bullying.

“I don’t feel like a retiree yet. I still have the same rhythm of life as when I was in competition. It will take me some time to win.” St-Pierre said.

St-Pierre pointed out that Conor McGregor was a master at art and that’s why he’s so popular, but this avenue was not a necessity to gain popularity, even in an organization like UFC.

Otherwise, St-Pierre believes that the most important thing to be appreciated by the public is to remain oneself. For him, this has contributed to his immense success.

A lot of memories of the fighter’s career remain etched in their memories, but none seems to be approaching his revenge against Matt Serra in 2008, in front of his audience at the Bell Center.

That night, St-Pierre confirmed he was at the top of his sport while conquering the hearts of sports fans who did not necessarily pay much attention to mixed martial arts at that time.

“Hockey here is the national sport. When you perform in another sport, you must perform elsewhere before being recognized at home. For me, it happened like that.” St-Pierre said.

The Quebecker has an undying memory of his victory against Serra. By his own admission, this is the greatest memory of his career.

“I was coming back from a humiliating defeat. I am someone very proud. It was really important to win this fight, and doing it at home was really exceptional,” St-Pierre said.

St-Pierre remembers that he did not always receive the same kind of welcome. He remembers his first fight in the UFC in Quebec, where he made the front page of a newspaper calling him a “barbarian”.

Asked if he had ever been approached by WWE or any other wrestling organization, such as Brock Lesnar and Ronda Rousey, St-Pierre said he had been approached recently for the very first time.
