Sergio Perez Demands FIA to Review Their Rules

Racing Formula 1 driver Sergio Perez came close to running over a marshal during the Monaco Grand Prix. He was coming out of the pits for a period under a safety car following the puncture of the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc.

The former Renault driver was accelerating out of the pits when two track officials ran out in front of him. Perez had to hit the brakes as one marshal made it to the opposing side of the track, while the other stood still, so the Mexican could pass.

“During the safety car I nearly ran over a marshal. They were running back across the track as I was coming out of the pits.” Perez said.

“It was a pretty hectic moment. This is something you do not expect to see as a pilot. I was really unlucky to meet the commissioners there, and it’s lucky that I did not touch them.

“I put a brake, but at the same time, I did not want to block my wheels to continue driving the car. I saw one who left and the other stopped at the right moment.” Perez added.

F1’s marshals contribute to enjoyable, efficient, and safer motor racing so far. They are responsible for the safety of competitors and are stationed at various points of danger around racetracks to assist them in case of any accidents.

However, Perez said that drivers can accelerate out of the stands under safety car and must respect a mandatory delta to join the FIA who rolls at low speed behind the safety car.

“The race was neutralised, but you have to respect a certain amount of time and the FIA is looking at it. I obey the rules because we have to follow the delta, and there are specific times when you do not have to comply.” Perez said.

“I do not want to blame anyone, but we have to see what is best for the future so that it never happen again.” he added.

FIA on the other hand, they will now firm up their message to marshals about when they are allowed on circuit.
