The DreamLeague event has long been one of the prestigious competitions in the Esports Dota 2 world. Last season DreamLeague Season 11 was even lined up to become one of the Major tournaments at the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) for the 2018-209 period, with the nickname Stockholm Major. This time DreamHack as the organizer will bring DreamLeague Season 12 to the city – even the country – that they have never visited before, namely the city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
Since DreamHack is an organizer based in Sweden, generally DreamLeague tournaments are held in Sweden as well. Before this there was only one DreamLeague that took place outside of Sweden, namely DreamLeague Season 7 in Atlanta, United States. So DreamLeague Season 11 has a position that is still quite special.
Like the previous seasons, DreamLeague Season 12 is still sponsored by CORSAIR, and offers prizes totaling US $ 250,000. The event was held on October 18-20, 2019, located in the Ahoy Rotterdam building which has a seating capacity of approximately 16,000 spectators. This building was also used some time ago by Riot Games to hold the Spring Finals League of Legends European Championship (LEC) tournament in April.
The number of prizes offered is indeed much smaller than DreamLeague Season 11 / Stockholm Major which offers up to US $ 1,000,000. That’s because DreamLeague Season 12 is not included in the Dota Pro Circuit. Understandably, the DPC for the 2018 – 2019 period will soon be over, and we will enter preparation for the International 2019 tournament in August. But who knows, there could be a change in plan and DreamLeague Season 12 to be part of the 2019-2020 DPC season. There is still a long time until October.
“It’s great to be able to continue the big event last season in Stockholm by sending DreamLeague experiences to new countries,” said DreamHack co-CEO, Marcus Lindmark, quoted by The Esports Observer. “DreamHack Rotterdam will be the perfect setting for CORSAIR DreamLeague Season 12 with thousands of esports and gaming fans gathered in Rotterdam Ahoy for the festival for three days.”
DreamHack Rotterdam is the name of the gaming festival that hosts the DreamLeague Season 12 tournament. This event is the main menu of the big event called Rotterdam Games Week. In addition to the Dota 2 DreamLeague Season 12 tournament, there is also a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament called DreamHack Open 2019 which offers prizes worth US $ 100,000. Omen by HP acts as a presenting partner who is the main sponsor of the DreamHack Rotterdam event.
