Manchester United hopes to sign the Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandez. Tottenham have also declared an interest in the Portuguese, earmarking him as a replacement for their star Christian Eriksen, who will likely be sold this summer.
The current situation is that Sporting is demanding £62.2 million, which makes the Premier League two teams feel that the price is too expensive but they think £50 million will be more reasonable.
The Red Devils need to start planning for life without Paul Pogba. When it comes to transfers, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it clear he wants the club to move away from the model that has failed in recent years.
If the club wants a player who produces similar statistics to Pogba, Fernadez would be a good option. But Solskjaer thinks the midfielder may be too expensive for United.
Fernandez has great vision, an incredible passing range, reads the game quite well and likes to dictate the tempo of the game. He has the ability to quickly turn defense into attack and is comfortable playing both as a defensive midfielder.
Fernandez told to the Portuguese reporters lately that he happy at Sporting but will leave when he wants amid Premier League clubs talk.
“Of course it is possible to continue in Sporting. I do not know what the truth of what has been in the newspapers is. I will have time now to know this, but I’m good at Sporting.” Fernandez said.
“I never said that I want to leave, but there are dreams that I would like to fulfil and one of them is to play in England. It is not now the English clubs and interested parties appear that I say this. It was always a dream.
“I’m good at Sporting, I do not think about leaving but there are clubs and proposals that cannot be rejected. I will only do this if Sporting agrees with me.” he added.
The 24-year-old is undoubtedly the Sporting’s best player, and he has contributed 28 goals and 14 assists in 48 appearances for the club in the last season.
