Paris Saint-Germain striker Neymar wants to return to his old club, according to Barcelona vice president Jodi Cardoner on Friday.
Neymar left Barca to join PSG for a world-record £200 million fee in August 2017, there have been reports he is not happy in the French capital. The Brazilian had his good moments with French giants, winning a domestic treble in his first season at the club and successfully defending the Ligue 1 crown in 2018-19.
“It is not the time to talk about arrivals, we are in a process of departures, it is a period that expires on the 30th of this month,” Cardoner said.
“The correct thing is to say that Neymar wants to return to Barcelona, but I do not agree that Barcelona worry about signing Neymar, this is not on the table, there are many things about his departure that I did not like, many things.
In last season, the former Santos player had scored 34 goals and 21 assists in 37 appearances for PSG. However, he failed to get past the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League for the club.
PSG on the other hand, they will need to be well compensated if they are to let their star to go, not least given Neymar’s contract runs to 2022.
“We have to change the scenarios, there are uncertain comments that we have signed Neymar, we have not signed anyone, we have not kept in touch with him, he and many want to play in Barcelona.” Cardoner continued.
“It does not surprise me that Neymar wants to come back as sometimes players have left and they have returned, Cesc, Pique.
“Neymar is a great player, but what surrounds the circumstances of how he left also have to be evaluated if one day these hypotheses are reality.” Cardoner added.
Real Madrid on the other hand, they could still be in the running for Neymar. The Los Blancos needed former Barcelona forward as replacement for Gareth Bale, who will leave this summer.
