Juan Mata has claimed that his team-mate Paul Pogba should remain at Manchester United beyond the new season. The former Juventus midfielder has long been linked with a return to the Serie A amid a reportedly uncertain future at the Old Trafford.
Pogba had scored 14 goals and noted 11 assists in 38 appearances for United. He became a key player for the Red Devils last season.
“We all know Paul and he is a fantastic midfielder, and a very good guy, very positive, and a good influence for everyone.” Mata said.
“I think he is happy and brings everyone together, but I cannot speak for other people – I speak for myself. As a team-mate and a friend I would like him to stay and be happy because he is a very good player for us.
“We know we have to do better than last season. This club has won more trophies than any other club in England. We want to win big trophies again.” Mata added.
According to report, United are keen to keep hold Pogba, while his agent Mini Raiola, has working continually been working to secure a move away from the club this summer.
The Premier League transfer window closes in just over two weeks. If Juventus want to get a deal done then the Italian giants will have to do it quickly.
When asked about David de Gea, Mata believes it is vital he remains at the club. The Spaniard has agreed a six-year United contract worth around £117m to become world’s highest-paid goalkeeper.
“David is the best or one of the best goalkeepers in the World, for sure. He is one of my best friends, so I want him to stay.” Mata said.
“On a professional level, it will be great for us if he stays because he will give us many points over the next seasons.
