The arrival of Harry Maguire is predicted to help lift Manchester United’s performance next season. The conviction was expressed directly by Man United’s head coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, after inaugurating the Maguire transfer from Leicester City on Monday (5/8/2019).
Maguire, said Solskjaer, has a number of abilities that have been needed by Man United. “Harry is one of the best center-backs at the moment, and I’m glad we were able to secure his signature,” Solskjaer was quoted as saying on the Man United website.
“He is a great game reader and his presence is strong when on the field, with the ability to remain calm even under pressure,” he said. Maguire was officially recruited by Man United on a 6-year contract and the option to add to the next term.
“I see he will be able to adjust to the team, both on and off the field,” Solskjaer said of Maguire. “He has an extraordinary personality and is a plus for the club. I welcome Maguire to Manchester United, and I can’t wait to work with him ahead of the new season.”
The 26 years old player also claimed to be enthusiastic about the vision and plans presented by Solskjaer for Man United. “It’s clear that Solskjaer built a team to win the trophy. Now, I can’t wait to meet my team-mates and start the competition,” Maguire said.
Maguire Transfer Fee
Red Devils do not explicitly announce Maguire transfer fees, but Transfermarkt said the price reached 87 million pounds. With the transfer fee, Maguire became the world’s most expensive defender. The record was previously held by Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool). In January 2018, Van Dijk was bought by Liverpool from Southampton at a cost of £ 75 million.
Leicester City itself confirms that Maguire’s transfer fee is the biggest record for acceptance of the club based at the King Power Stadium. Maguire became Man United’s third new signing in the summer of 2019 after Aaron Wan-Bissaka (from Crystal Palace) and Daniel James (Swansea City).
Maguire Career Journey
Maguire began his professional career at Sheffield United in 2011. Three years later, he moved to Hull City. Being lent to Wigan, Leicester bought Maguire from Hull City in 2017 at a cost of £ 13.7 million. During Leicester’s uniform, Maguire’s name began to be highlighted. At that club, he successfully recorded 76 matches and scored 5 goals.
