Premier League Results: Chelsea Fail to Win Against Leicester City

Chelsea failed to win and had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Leicester City in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Sunday (8/18).

The Blues failed to reap the inaugural victory in the Premier League after previously received a 0-4 blow from Manchester United. This time Chelsea were held to a draw at Leicester.

Frank Lampard’s squad actually starts the game aggressively. Not even a minute, Chelsea has got a golden opportunity. Unfortunately, volley kick by Pedro is still sideways on the side of the goal.

Mason Mount managed to break the deadlock in the seventh minute. After winning the duel against Wilfred Ndidi, the former Derby County player fired a hard shot that could not be blocked by Kasper Schmeichel.

Leicester led by Brendan Rodgers was actually able to spread several threats through Jamie Vardy and James Maddison in the first round. However, the efforts of these two players have yet to see results.

Leicester’s hard work finally scored in the 67th minute. Ndidi’s header utilizing a cross from Maddison managed to rip the goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga to change the score to 1-1.

Chelsea coach Frank Lampard tried to respond to the visitors’ goal by making two substitutions. Mateo Kovacic and Willian were included to replace Jorginho and Christian Pulisic.

Leicester instead turned ahead through the charming action of Maddison in the 74th minute. After passing three opposing players, Maddison fired from outside the penalty box but the ball still bounced over the bar.

Chelsea’s hard work to win the match failed to materialize due to minimal final resolution. Both teams must also be satisfied to share numbers until the end of the match.

This will be Chelsea’s third winless match under Lampard’s direction. Previously, Chelsea lost 0-4 to Manchester United in the inaugural week of the English League and lost to Liverpool in the 2019 European Super Cup.

Lampard’s debut equaled Benitez’s negative record while serving as Chelsea’s interim coach in the 2012/13 season. The Spaniard failed to win in the first three matches of Chelsea.

Chelsea directed by Benitez result goalless at home to Manchester City and Fulham, then lost 1-3 when they visited West Ham United headquarters. However, in the fourth match, Benitez’s Chelsea raged by running over Danish deputy Nordsjaelland 6-1 in the Champions League group phase.

Lampard-era Chelsea also have the opportunity to break a series of negative results that never won when they travel to the headquarters of the Premier League promotion team, Norwich City, Saturday (24/8).
