Sam Allardyce Believes Man United Boss Made Big Mistake Selling Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to sell Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan at the start of the 2019/20 season this summer.

Lukaku joined United from Everton in 2017, signing a five-year contract with the option for a further year. The 26-year-old striker scored 42 goals in 96 appearances for United.

However, former Everton manager Sam Allardyce belives Solskjaer has made big mistake selling the Belgian forward to Serie A clubs.

“There’s been a little bit of grumbling about the lack of spending. I think the net spend has not quite been as good as the United fans expected.” Allardyce said.

“This is my point of view as a manager, nobody else’s; I wouldn’t have let Lukaku go because they had no replacement. Manchester United look a bit short up front and that is a problem.” Allardyce added.

Solskjaer named a number of youngsters in the first team and gave academy graduated or winger Daniel James his first league start for the Red Devils.

“If you have the replacement then that’s fine but if you look at Manchester United’s front line then you say to yourself that it’s very talented but also very similar.” Allardyce said.

“I don’t think you need to be very experienced in the game to know that. It eludes to only one style of play. I find that rather strange when you consider the game today and it’s the diversity of the game which is what makes the Premier League so good.” he added.

Lukaku did not play a single minute of United’s preparations for the 2019-20 campaign. At the end, he has completed his move to San Siro after weeks of pushing for a departure from the Old Trafford. It is understood Inter paid up to €80m for the striker and a sell-on clause has been inserted in the deal.

On his debut, Lukaku scored 4 goals as Inter beat Serie D Virtus Bergamo 8-0 in friendly on August 11. That was a superb football match for the cousin of Boli Bolingoli who plays for Celtic FC.
