London-based club Chelsea were banned for two transfer windows by UEFA, so that the previous summer transfer window, Chelsea are not allowed to bring in new players, this makes Chelsea’s new coach, Frank Lampard unable to form a squad in accordance with his wishes. Inevitably Lampard must utilize existing players.
The loss of Eden Hazard, who moved to Real Madrid, made Chelsea lack creativity as well as goal scorers. Knowing Hazard was the main goal scorer of The Blues and considering Olivier Giroud could not play consistently in each match, made it even worse for Chelsea. However, the departure of Eden Hazard does not need to be lamented by the Blues fans, as Chelsea have a lot of young players who are on loan in another clubs. This season the names Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount become young players who stand out in the Blues squad through their good performance in the Premier League.
Both continue to be the main choice of Frank Lampard to fill the starting line-up. Together with Callum Hudson – Odoi and Ruben Loftus – Cheek, Mount and Abraham are expected to be the future of the Blues. Frank Lampard’s trust was not wasted by Abraham and Mount. Of the three appearances to be a starter, Abraham managed to score 4 goals, two of which were nested in Norwich City which gave the Blues the first 3 points in the Premier League, while Mason Mount scored 2 goals.
Frank Lampard’s courage in playing a young player deserves appreciation, considering that so far Chelsea have often underestimated the young players, the most concrete example is the reluctance of Chelsea to give the opportunity to play to Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne. Purchased from RSC Anderlecht and KRC Genk, the two players are mostly loaned to other clubs before being sold permanently. The case of Mohammed Salah is also an example if Chelsea lacks confidence in young players’ abilities. The Egyptian striker has only lasted a season since coming from FC Basel, Salah’s best game began to emerge when he was twice loaned to Fiorentina and AS Roma. Maybe Chelsea’s management is rather sorry to see Salah playing neatly with Liverpool, even with a notch of the Champions League and European Super Cup.
The two cases above can be a lesson for Chelsea management not to ignore the talents of young talents, especially those from England, especially after the departure of Lampard and Terry, Chelsea no longer have the original club icon from England.
