Barcelona striker Lionel Messi reportedly has a clause in his contract which allows him free to leave the club at the end of 2019/20 season. The Argentine is one of the best strikers in the world and his current contract will run until the summer of 2021.
Ex-Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas said there is no replacement for Messi in future. No one can replace the best players in the world. Barcelona never found another Andreas Iniesta, nor would they find another Messi.
“I think that’s probably impossible. We’ve seen the likes of Ronaldo and Ronaldinho, amazing players, but Messi has been the best for 15 years. He’s in his 17th season and he’s been the best since he was 18 years old.” Fabregas said.
“I’ve seen things you wouldn’t believe. Every three days he scores goals, he heads off to play for Argentina he comes back jet-lagged and scores a hat-trick, that’s not normal, believe me.” Fabregas added.
Fabregas left Barcelona for Premier League club Chelsea in 2014. During his three-year spell at Camp Nou the 32-year-old midfielder played alongside Messi and Iniesta and won LaLiga title, Copa del Rey, the UEFA Super Cup and two Spanish Super Cups.
“I would have liked to enjoy playing more with Leo. I had a bit of bad luck in that respect. The first season we had together we had a great understanding.” he said.
“But the two following seasons was when I had my worst time with injuries. I wasn’t at my best at key moments and that affected everyone, including Leo.” Fabrgas added.
Fabregas has signed for Ligue 1 club AS Monaco from Chelsea on a three-and-a-half-year contract in January 2019. He is excited to try to compete for the Champions League spot, as Monaco currently sit 19th in the table standings.
“The objective last year was clear: stay up by whatever means possible. This season we’ll try to compete to qualify for the Champions League. Let’s see if the new signings all fit in well.” Fabregas said.
