Naomi Osaka Opens Up About the Bad Side to Become World #1 Tennis Player

Naomi Osaka

Tennis News: Tennis player who has claimed two Grand Slam titles, Naomi Osaka stated that she is too statistics-oriented after becoming world number 1 at the start of the season.

In January, the 21-year-old, Osaka became the first Asian to top the women’s tennis world after winning the Australian Open. However, in the period when he was at the top, his journey was far from a smooth trip.

In her first tournament as world number 1, Osaka lost in the first round to Kristina Mladenovic and did not pitch to the other semifinals until April. In the other three Grand Slams, he failed to advance to the quarterfinals.

“I honestly count rank points,” I said when I was ranked 1st in the world.

“I became too oriented towards statistics after I won the Australian Open, because there was a big thing when you became world number 1. Then I felt I shouldn’t lose the match after that. “

So far in his career, Osaka spent 25 weeks as world number 1 tennis player, a slightly longer period than other tennis players like Maria Sharapova (21 weeks), Kim Clijsters (20 weeks), and Ana Ivanovic (12 weeks).

High expectations must be pay handsomely by Osaka in a season like a roller coaster, both on and off the field. In that period, he ended his collaboration with Sasha Bajin before joining Jermaine Jenkins.

He then separate from Jenkins last month and is currently mentor by his own father.

“To be honest, I don’t think I will feel the same way as I did after Australia,” Osaka said of the pressure he put on himself.

Despite the setbacks, Osaka now has 10 consecutive wins after last week’s championship in Beijing and Tokyo a few weeks earlier. For the first time, he won two successive trophies in a matter of a few weeks.

“For me, I only did what I did for 21 years, which was playing tennis. That is the main for me. “That’s what I do every day of my life and that gives me the most fun,” said Osaka.

This season Osaka recorded 39-11 and he has already qualified himself at the WTA Finals in Shenzhen at the end of this season.

Previously Naomi Osaka won her second tournament in three weeks after frustrating world number 1 Ashleigh Barty in the final of the China Open, Beijing.

The China Open title became Osaka’s third title this season as well as being the fifth title in his career that is still very green.
