Vettel not Envy of Hamilton

Sebastian Vettel is not envy of his rival Lewis Hamilton success.

The British driver is on his way to name sixth Formula 1 World Championship title to his name this year.

Sebastian Vettel is himself a world champion and had won four consecutive world championship titles from 2010 to 2013 Red Bull Racing team.

Since then he had been unable to match Mercedes with Hamilton on their side. Hamilton requires four more points in next three races to win this year world title. He will be second driver in F1 history with six titles to his name, while Michael Schumacher with seven titles top the drivers list.

Vettel was asked about how he feels, envy or not, about the achievements of Hamilton.

He said: “I wouldn’t say ‘envy’ because I appreciate his efforts, his performances, his success a lot.

“I think you have to because it’s obvious. If not, then I don’t know, it wouldn’t be me and I think it would be in my world and values, whatever, it would be wrong.

“So I think he deserves it. Together with his team he’s done a great job. Obviously, in a way you could say, I’m jealous because we wanted to be there and we are not. But [it’s] not that I envy him. I think, you know, it’s the name of the game.”

Ferrari was unable to perform despite high hopes for the team. But it improved after the summer break where its drivers took six pole positions and three victories especially on team’s home ground in Italy.

The German driver is optimistic about team performance next year. He is hopeful that Ferrari will have a real chance to win 2020 F1 season.

“There can be one winner and one person finishing second, third and so on,” said Vettel.

“So it’s the nature of the sport and obviously he’s occupied that space, which means that whoever else there’s only second, third, fourth, fifth and so on left. So that’s how it is.

“But there’s no guarantee that it’s going to be like this next year.”

Vettel added: “So there’s always hope looking forward.”
